Description:  Hard to see in this overcast shot but the number boards bulge out a few inches over that of normal units. This was because Locotrol equipment was installed in the shorthood and took up the room where lightbulbs could be replaced from inside the hood.

Description:  When NS started back to running into Columbus it was at an important time. It was just before the retirement of C39's, the new Thoroughbred or unibrow scheme hadn't came into play, GP50's were still roaming the system with their high hoods intact and SD50's could still be found. The 6522 is living on borrowed time though. Sometime later in the year most NS SD50's would find their way to the deadlines. Most would go on to NREX.
