Here are both covers and the complete contents of a 64-page booklet published by Mr. Harry P. Albrecht entitled "World Famous Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, Pennsylvania Railroad." It was issued originally during September of 1973. "Altoona . . . a magic name that conveys instantly to the minds of many individuals in American and foreign countries the famous shops of the Pennsylvania Railroad located at that point . . . a massed assembly of men and materials of whom it can be truly said . . . 'Altoona Works can make or repair anything necessary for the operation of a railroad.'" (Page 1)

Description:
Here is page 50 of a 64-page booklet published by Harry P. Albrecht entitled "World Famous Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, Pennsylvania Railroad." It was first issued in September of 1973. Photo Caption: "Some motive power of about the 1870ies. These locomotives are at the western [or Pittsburgh Division] roundhouse." In the forefront is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #344, a Class D (4-6-0) "Ten-Wheeler" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during August of 1872 and retired in January of 1893 after 21 years of faithful service. The names of the two Hostlers pictured here are not recorded. (To locate this structure, refer to pages 37 and 38.)

Here is page 52 of a 64-page booklet published by Harry P. Albrecht entitled "World Famous Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, Pennsylvania Railroad." It was first issued in September of 1973. Top Left Photo: Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5075, an E-6 (4-4-2) "Atlantic" built in Juniata as number "5075" during December of 1910, renumbered "1067" in December of 1911, rebuilt as an E-6S in 1913, and retired in June of 1950 after 40 years of faithful service; it's the very first Pennsy E-6. Right Photo, Partial Caption: "In this building at Altoona, Pa., recently built and equipped at a cost of more than a quarter of a million dollars, the Test Department of the Pennsylvania Railroad is housed." Top Photo: Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1737, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1914 and retired in February of 1960. Bottom Photo: Shown here is PRR engine #1752, an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata in April of 1914 and retired in December of 1948.

Here is page 54 of a 64-page booklet published by Harry P. Albrecht entitled "World Famous Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, Pennsylvania Railroad." It was first issued in September of 1973. Left Side, Top Photo: Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #142, an Odd Class A (4-4-0) "American" built in the Altoona Machine Shops (AMS) in December of 1866 and retired in 1888; it's the first locomotive built in Altoona. Left Side, Middle Photo: Engine #173 is an H-1 (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built in AMS in November of 1875 and retired in April of 1896. Left Side, Bottom Photo: #963 is a B-3 (0-6-0) switcher built in AMS in December of 1882 and sold to E.H. Wilson in March of 1905. Right Side, Top Photo: Engine #1515 is a D-15 (4-4-0) "Compound" built in AMS in October of 1892 and retired in November of 1905. Right Side, Middle Photo: Engine #1223 is a D-16SB (4-4-0) "American" built in Juniata in 1905 and presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. Right Side, Bottom Photo: Engine #1067 is an E-6S (4-4-2) "Atlantic" built in Juniata as number "5075" in December of 1910, renumbered "1067" in December of 1911, and retired in June of 1950.

Here is page 55 of a 64-page booklet published by Harry P. Albrecht entitled "World Famous Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, Pennsylvania Railroad." It was first issued in September of 1973. Partial Caption: "Build at the Altoona Works in 1919, the Class HC-1s (2-8-8-0) simple mallet locomotive stands beside a train of West Jersey & Seashore wooden MU coaches on exhibition at Tennessee Ave., Atlantic City, 1924." Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3700, the HC-1S (2-8-8-0) built in Juniata during June of 1919 and retired in August of 1929 after just a decade of revenue service. The name of the Hostler pictured here is not recorded.

Pennsylvania Railroad engine #612 is a K-4SA (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata as a K-4S during April of 1917, later equipped with a front-end throttle and reclassified as a K-4SA, and retired in April of 1958 after 41 years of faithful service.
