Description:  Nice. Check out the exhaust stack, chirping away! I ran into the building manager, and the engineer, as I was poking around outside the (barbwire) fence, and after inviting me in to the yard, we spent a few minutes admiring this fine engine from every angle - on literally its first day out in the sunshine in many years.

Description:  After seeing the two ALCO switchers at the Trillium yard, I knew #340 would be out and about, and I managed to find it switching tank cars at Dain City. After a short wait, the train came across the big iron former lift bridge over the old Welland Canal channel. The two bridge towers can be seen for miles.

Description:  I normally try not to take pictures of the train crews while they're working. I hate the idea that I might be distracting them, and generally stay well back. I didn't know until I snapped the pic that the brakeman would step out just as I lined up my shot. There's a crossing on the other side of the bridge, and he will conduct the train through as it enters the industry yard tracks just beyond.

Description:  This will be in my top pics of the year. Really long-distance shot of rare CP meet at the Brookfield/Robbins West interchange. But it's the horizon that propels this pic up the favourite list. The two Welland Canal bridge towers indicate the direct path of the long-abandoned right of way through Dain City. The bridge is still in use by Trillium Railways, but hasn't been raised since 1972 - when the canal was re-routed away from the City of Welland in a massive civil/marine engineering project.
