Viewing Album:  "Santa Fe" Caboose in Melvern, KS

Album Info:Just off of Highway 75, about 30 miles south of Topeka, sits a little gem for railroad fans. Melvern, a town of only 385, sits right on the BNSF Mainline. Right next to the railroad tracks is a little park called Railroad Park. Not only is there a specially built overlook for people to watch the trains go by on, but the old Pine Street bridge still crosses the tracks! The date of construction varies (some say 1909, others say 1890: http://johnmarvigbridges.org/Pine%20Street%20Bridge%20Melvern.html), but there's a good chance this was once a railroad bridge in another location. Around 1909, though, it was moved to Melvern, where it served Pine Street for many years. Now, it is for pedestrians only, and it makes a great spot to stand and watch the trains go by on! Also, there's a "Santa Fe" caboose, though you'll see why this is deceptive soon enough...
