Title:  Through the fields in the pouring rain
Description:  H75 heads through an open field near the Steuben Road crossing a minute before noon in very heavy rainfall. Compare the front of the consist with earlier photos of the chase and you'll notice that some hoppers were picked up along the way. Waiting for the train at the Route 512 crossing just south of Bath revealed that there were 30 cars in the consist - all of them either covered hoppers or centerbeam flats loaded with lumber.

Description:  ...but it wasn't supposed to rain until the mid-afternoon! Grain silos (and some unwanted poles and wires) provide a backdrop as H75 crosses Township Line Road on its way to Stockertown. Quite evident in this photo is the heavy rain, which prompted us to call off the chase here.

Description:  A nearly two hour long traffic lull is broken by 23M as it passes through town at 8:16AM. Although this train is only about 100 miles into its Elizabethport to Chicago journey, it has already dealt with some problems. The second and third units are dead and the leader is the only one running here. Luckily for the crew, 23M's consist is quite short today.

Description:  The trailers form a slight arch pattern as they crest the hill behind 21M's power. The UP SD70M in third was the only non-NS engine seen during this trip. The lead unit is about to pass over the 29.9 hot box and dragging equipment detector. That cut off whistle post is a compositional blunder that I'd rather not repeat. (11:06AM)
