CSX 45
Title:  CSX 45
Description:  A train of empty coal hoppers rounds the wye to Brownsville Junction Bridge, where it will cross from the Norfolk Southern Loveridge Secondary to the Norfolk Southern Mon Line and make another coal pickup. This train had to wait till an NS coal train came across the bridge, as any traffic coming off the Mon Line has first right of way. CSX 45 has now been repainted into the standard YN3/Dark Future paint scheme in 2012.

CLCX 9698 (1)
Title:  CLCX 9698 (1)
Description:  A very rare close look at the remote-controlled switcher used in Consol Energy's Alicia Yard. The locomotive is a CLCX (Chattahoochee Railroad Company) Alco S2. I'm told this was rebuilt with a Caterpillar motor and it seemed to pull the coal cars with no strain at all. This was built as HBT 18 in August 1948. Later became TEXC 4. I have discovered this has now moved on to Gilman, Illinois and is CRGX 9698.

Consol Energy's Coal Dumper
Title:  Consol Energy's Coal Dumper
Description:  This amazing machine can pick up a whole railcar full of coal and rotate it upside down. The entire process takes only a few minutes. The empties get pulled out of here by a remote control locomotive and the machine pulls in another car, after a worker releases it from the rest of the train. The coal moves by several conveyors to barges on the Monongahela River where it will be shipped to various industries that need coal to operate. This facility is on Norfolk Southerns Loveridge Secondary. Taken from Alicia Road. (public property)

Title:  CR 58576 and MW605
Description:  The crane and flatcar have separate numbers but both of them need to work together. This crane was built by American Crane Company. (Serial # J3089) I don't know the year it was built but it looks old enough to be from the days of the Pennsylvania RR, before Penn Central, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern came along. Seen on a maintenance of way train at the Consol Energy Alicia Yard. (On the Loveridge Secondary)

NS 3038 (2)
Title:  NS 3038 (2)
Description:  There is nothing like the steady rumble of a GP40-2 engine plus the tell-tale high pitched sound of the Leslie air horns. Combine that with seeing something like this coming down the street, and you may feel like you are in the Conrail heydays of the 80's or 90's. This is a rather rare opportunity to see a train other than a coal drag running through West Brownsville. They were all covered hoppers. This engine is former Conrail 3347 built March 1979. Unfortunately this was painted black in August 2011.

Description:  A weathered GP40-2 idles with a GP38-2 high-hood on mixed freight train here in the NS West Brownsville Yard, after moving some cars around in the yard all morning. Seeing a non-coal freight train on this line is a major surprise. Engine 3038 is former Conrail 3347 built March 1979. Unfortunately this was painted black in August 2011.
