The Prima EL4U 6000 was developed by Alstom with first run 2004. The goal was to offer an alternative to Siemens EuroSprinter and Bombardier Traxx platform. Compared with other PRIMA units (27000 and 37000 with 4200 kW), it has 6000 kW duration power (hence the name). It is able to run under all four voltage systems generally used in Europe. So far Alstom couldn't sell any type 6000 units. Now the demonstrator rests empty as engine body outside the factory at Belfort. |

(The number for the modern HXD-line is 1=Siemens, 2= Alstom, 3=Bombardier) It was outshopped and had electric tests just in front of the factory in Belfort/France. With 9600 kW / 12873 hp it is the most powerful Prima series engine. HXD2B is the 6 axles version of HXD2, based on the PRIMA platform, and has the similar traction performance as HXD1B, a 9600kW locomotive.
