A Green Bay to Stevens Point train waits for clearance thru Shawano Junction under the western approaches of the Roland Kampo Bridge.The train is waitng on the former CNW Valley Subdivision mainline adjacent to the Stroebe siding. Shawano Junction is behind the camera, to which the curving track connects. The Shawano Sub is parallel the track seen here to the left seperated by the trees. The CNW main here used to go straight towards the camera, and eventually curve to the right of the photo to cross Little Lake Buttes des Morts. The trestle is now part of a recreational trail. The CNW and the Soo Line, did not have a junction here while they owned these right of ways. The connection is courtesy of the Wisconsin Central after purchase of the FRVR. |

The mill complex to the rear is Neenah Foundry (plant 2). Plant 2 is now the only Neenah Foundry plant in Neenah, plant 1 was razed quite some time ago. |

Hamilton purchased the land and renamed it Hamilton Post Office. Old foundations can still be found in the treeline along with quite a bit of long out of service trackwork. Headed railroad "west", the 2665 leads a train downgrade on Byron Hill towards Fond du Lac. The location is known as Hamilton on detailed maps, in the vicinity of the grade crossing with CTY HWY B (Hamilton Road). Originally formed in 1883, the community was named Ketcham Post Office, named after the first president of the Hamilton Stone Quarries. The quarries are located very near and are quite large to this day. In 1894, Irenus K. Hamilton purchased Ketcham Post Office and the name was changed to Hamilton Post Office. This location had the post office and a railroad station. What seems to be the remnants of the original buildings' foundations still exist in the trees along with buried track long out of service. |

The train will continue north towards Wausau only far enough to clear this turnout with the rear of the train. Once the train is clear of this turnout, it will then reverse direction and back onto the northwest quadrant connecting track. The train will continue this reverse move util it is once again on the former Soo Line R.o.W. facing Stevens Point, having turn itself via the junction. Once on the Soo Line R.o.W., the train will be waiting for a while. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to find out what for, or for which way it would go once it departed. |
