Description:  Here is a photo by Fred R. Kern that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 3 July 1949. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6441, a J-1 (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during November of 1943 and retired in April of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, it's parked near Juniata's 17th Street Bridge waiting to be serviced in the East Altoona Roundhouse (not pictured at the right). Gary Mittner Collection.
