NYC 4-8-2 #2710 - New York Central
Title:  NYC 4-8-2 #2710 - New York Central
Description:  The beautiful and powerful New York Central 4-8-2 #2710 sits in the Elkhart, Indiana, yard waiting for its next assignment. Built by ALCo-Schenectady in February of 1029, this 4-8-2 was christened as a "Mohawk" since NYC didn't think the "Mountain" label was appropriate for their "Water Level Route". The loco served well until dieseliaztion hit. It was retired in June of 1952 after 26 years of service and scrapped later that year. Specs - 69" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 362,500 lb, tractive effort of 60,620 with a booster addition of 12,660 lb. The photo is from the Howard W. Ameling collection.
