Title:  UP lends a hand
Description:  I took the Pioneer and Cal Zephyr from Seattle to Chicago. This was about a year after the Thistle mudslide on the DRGW, and Amtrak was not yet running trains there. Numbers 5 and 6 detoured over UP from Salt Lake to Denver. UP added a unit, though as I recall, time keeping was not an issue, as the route was faster than the Rio Grande. Here we see UP 3301 leading the Amtrak power at Borie Jct.

Description:  Sometimes things went well, and I got to see some trains while working. This day I was making a delivery to the Budweiser distributor in Ottumwa-which was across the street from the BNSF ex Q main. Good timing-got to see #6 roll by with 19 cars while waiting for the dock.

Description:  I've always liked this photo, even if many serious photographers haven't. They say it's "boring," but most of them aren't railfans! From the technical point of view, the contrast is a bit low, but since it was a gloomy Plattsburgh winter day, if I were to up the contrast on this, the detail and the grit of the scene would be lost. For the railfans, though, it's a nice shot of an F40PH in the last years of F40 haulage on Train #68, the "Adirondack."

It's slowing for Plattsburgh station, which is in the distance, around the curve and on the right side of the tracks.
