Former Burlington Northern Railroad GP40G 3082 at Cotter, Arkansas on June 2, 1993, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 3082 was built in April 1969 ( c/n 34848 ) as B&O GP40 3725 ( owned by GATX Leasing ), but spent a lot of time out on lease. It was leased to the C&NW in mid-1979, then to the AT&SF from late 1979 to late 1981 ( temporarily renumbered to 9725 to avoid conflict with existing AT&SF numbers ), returned to the B&O, then returned to lessor GATX on May 17, 1984. Leased to Canadian Pacific from mid-1984 to early 1989, returned to GATX, sent to Livingston ( Montana ) Rebuild Center, outshopped as BN GP40G 3082 on April 5, 1989 and leased by GATX to the BN, returned to GATX on June 1, 1992, leased to the M&NA as 3082, leased to the Texas & Northeastern as 3082 during 1993, leased to Central Oregon & Pacific as 3082 starting in Februry 1995, rebuilt into a GP38-2 by Alstom Canada, outshopped on October 18, 1998 as UP 2386 returned upon expiration of lease to Helm Leasing on October 13, 2003. |
