Description: |
In April 2004 I had the privilege of a cab ride across Sir Lowry's Pass in 35-408. Not much room left in that cab now, since 35-403 ploughed into it during the accident. |

SAR Derailment |
Description: |
There's not much left of the cab of 35-408 after 35-403 (visible behind) ploughed into it during the accident. There were five crew members on board and all were injured, the worst having suffered a broken pelvis and broken ribs. Fortunately none of them were riding in 35-408, which was the second unit in the consist. |

Lady luck smiled on the shunter crew who rode in the third unit, 35-403. The chances that anyone would have survived in the cab of 35-408, the second unit, is virtually zero. |

Description: |
35-408, the second loco of the foursome, looks like it's ready for the cutter's torches, but then, considering Spoornet's loco shortage, a trip to the Transwerk shops in Bloemfontein for repairs is not totally out of the question either. |

35-408 certainly came off worst of the four locos, with her cab totally destroyed and even the frame torn. |
