Description:  Coming around the big curve near UP's San Antonio East Yard, Amtrak Train #2 passes a waiting UP Local led by UP 588 and the former UP East Yard Shops. The former UP shops are now used by the Southwest Institute (I believe) for emissions testing. In the shops are two CN locomotives, 2288 and 8822, along with a CSX AC6000CW and ex-BNSF 6304.

East Yard Shops
Title:  East Yard Shops
Description:  A slew of locomotives sit at the East Yard Shops in San Antonio, TX. The three tracks at the right are used by the Southwest Institute for Emissions Testing, which has several locomotives in it, including some newer CN locomotives, a UP SD70M, a CSX AC6000CW, and an ex-BNSF SD40-2. The tracks at the left are used for storage by UP and has a collection of C40-8's, B40-8's, and SD40-2's, including UP 2990, a very rusty patched-CNW unit.

Title:  Looking Back at the Shops
Description:  Looking back from Amtrak Train #2, UP 588 holds a local on Del Rio Sub Main #2 as the train passes the East Yard Shops. The three tracks on the right with the two CN locomotives and ex-BNSF 6304 are used by the Southwest Institute for Locomotive Emissions Testing. The tracks on the left are used for storage by UP. The dwarf signals for Tower 121 (CP SA208) can be seen near the bottom of the picture.

Title:  BNSF 6307
Description:  SD40 6307 rests in the parking lot at the Western America Railroad Museum in Barstow. 6307 was originally Santa Fe 1707, built by EMD in 1966. The unit was renumbered not long after to ATSF 5007. In the early 1980s, Santa Fe rebuilt and repainted the locomotive, giving it the designation SD40u. The unit would keep its number, however, until the BNSF merger, whne it would be renumbered 6307. The unit oerated with BNSF for over 10 years, finally being sidelined in 2009. In order to clear room in the roster for new ES44ACs from GE, BNSF 6307 officially became GN 6307, and was stripped of Santa Fe markings. The unit was stored at Barstow with an uncertain future for 10 years, before finally being donated to the museum in 2019, where it now resides with fellow SD40 Unioon Pacific 9950.
