B&O 4-6-2 #5302 - Baltimore & Ohio |
Description: |
An interesting, possibly suspicious, pair of well dressed men seem to be working on the high stepping 80" drivers of this 1927 Baldwin built Pacific at the 24th Street station.. The loco was a P-7 class and generated an impressive 230 psi boiler pressure for its 27"x28" cylinder (diameter & stroke). It could produce a tractive effort of 49,882 lb. Later it was rebuilt by B&O shops in 1946 as P-7d streamline version. No photographer credit listed |

BO 4-6-2 #5303 - Baltimore & Ohio |
Description: |
Here is an example of a railroad "phoenix" who keeps rising from its ashes. Built by Baldwin in February of 1927 (serial #59884), it was one of the Presidential Series of Pacifics and carried the name President Monroe for the first part of its life. In 1947, it was streamlined for the "Cincinnatian" train set (P-7d class) seen here in this photo. In 1956 it was renumbered BO #110. Finally in 1957, it was retired. Original specs - P-7 class, 80" drivers, impressive 230 psi boiler pressure, 27x28" cylinders, engine weight of 326,000 lb, tractive effort of 50,000 lb. No date or location was given for the photo and only a photo credit to RR Avenue Enterprises. |

In this Donald A. Somerville photo, the 1927 Baldwin Pacific type locomotive looks great and has a ready engineer to take it out. This is a P-7 class loco. Since no location or date were provided, the ones used are "guess-timates". |

BO 4-6-2 #5306 - "President Van Buren" |
Description: |
Built by Baldwin in April of 1927 as part of the "Presidential Series" of 4-6-2 Pacifics, this specific loco had the honor of carrying the name of President Van Buren duing its 30 years of service. The loco was retired in 1957 which means this photo may have been the last one before it was retired in this year.
