Mark Holderbaum	General	They sometimes replace the governer with a sd/gp-39 series which limits the engine to 2300 hp; or deactivate the turbocharger. Does not require any external changes or different engine block. BNSF has done this to some of their oldest SD-40 units that have been bumped down to yard service. They only way to know is the blue inspection form in the cab which lists the model and horsepower.	12/2/2008 11:17:17 AM

Rebuilt BNSF SD40-2
I couldn't tell, but given the number, I'm guessing that this has been de-turboed, and turned into an "SD38-3." Thoughts?
