| Kansas City Southern GP40 764 was parked at WEST YARD, just outside of New Orleans. It had been built in September 1968 as Penn Central 3135 (EMD 34312) and was acquired by the KCS in October 1983, after its initial 15-year lease expired. KCS sent it to Morrison- Knudsen’s BOISE LOCOMOTIVE SHOP in January 1992 as partial payment for upgrading 16 GP40’s into GP40M-2’s 4780-4795, and M-K remanufactured it into Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern GP38M-3 3834 in September 1996. |
