The Tunnel
Finally got to run through a tunnel on the MNA last night on a Tyson Bergman, AR Grain Train. We dropped off 15 cars at Aurora, MO. Reeds Spring Tunnel is a 2,756 foot bore at 1175 feet above sea level on the south end seen here. This is a 1.0% downgrade here at MP 459.5 on the MNA Aurora Sub, the former MP Carthage Sub. The tunnel was constructed in 1904 along with this portion of the line. We were relieved a few miles down the track at Gretna, MO, just north of Branson by a split Cotter/Batesville crew at MP 451.25.
