AT&SF RSD5 2134
AT&SF RSD5 2134 at La Junta, Colorado on August 17, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in June 1953 (c/n 80603) it was retired June 18, 1969 and traded to EMD for credit on a SD45 order. On the date of this photo, number 2134 was the station switcher at La Junta. The Santa Fe had a total of 10 RSD4's and 53 RSD5's. The RSD5 (Alco Specification E1664), at fifty-six feet, five and one quarter inches, was six inches longer than the RSD4 (Alco Spec. E1663). Although I have no hard evidence (yet) one source indicates that the AT&SF RSD5's were equipped with dynamic brakes, and the vents in the short hood, as well as the alternate placement of the numberboard on the short hood suggests it might be true.
