| SP SD40E 7342 (ex-SD40 8470) wore a unique paint scheme for a short time. Painted orange and gray, with scarlet ends, the lettering on the right side was white and on the left was red. The nose wings differed, too, as on the left side there were no orange "fingers" protruding into the scarlet. This engine, seen here at West Colton Yard in Bloomington, California, on August 29, 1981, would in short order be repainted into yet another experimental scheme with more scarlet, matching the scheme worn by rebuilt SD45 7399. |
