The "flying saucer" lighting pinpoints this as Southern Pacifics West Colton Yard, even though these Radio Control Cars are clearly painted in Burlington Northern colors. In the late 1970s the SP tested several of the BNs remote helper control, with a small batch of BN SD40-2s and RCU/RCC cars working out of southern California. Laying over at West Colton Yard are BN RCC 108 (ex-BN F7B 661, originally Great Northern 448B) and RCU 109 (ex-BN F3B 701, ex-Northern Pacific 6000B, nee-NP 6011B). These units added a nice touch of color to the southern California rail scene at the time. |
