Penn Central 84-seat coach 1487 was built by the Budd Co. in November 1949 as Norfolk & Western sleeper ROANOKE COLLEGE. It was one of 20 Plan 9523 10-roomette/6-double-bedroom N&W cars in Budd Lot 9660. All of these were sold to the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1963, which remodeled them into coaches 1480-1499. This car retained its same number on the Penn Central, and was sold to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania at Strasburg in 1978. (approximate month) |
