Amtrak diner–lounge observation car 8301 was built by Budd in 1948 as Chesapeake & Ohio 1921 for the Newport News section of the railroad’s planned CHESSIE steamliner. It was one of three cars (1920-1922) with a 4-seat lunch counter, 24-seat dining area and 20-seat lounge. Between 1953 and 1967 the cars were remodeled into three different configurations. As Amtrak 8300-8302 they had a snack bar, 38 dining seats and a 4-seat lounge seat. (approximate month) |
