SP 0-6-0T 565 - Southern Pacific LA General Shops  Contributor's Pick!
The SP had a number of specialized steam switchers for moving locos around engine terminals and backshops. They were the 'shop switchers'; they were usually retired locomotives whose original usefulness had come to an end. This loco started out as a 1903 Baldwin 0-6-0 #1109 and was converted in 1939 to this streamlined 0-6-0T for use in the LA General Shops area. Interesting to see the orginal loco face sticking out of the streamlined sheeting. It served as a shop goat until being "vacated" in April of 1956 and finally scrapped in June of 1956.

Fred Stuckmann General What an odd duck. Cool find. 1/6/2014 6:07:40 PM
Mark Forbes General It's not "streamlined", it's a tank engine. No tender; fuel and water in the jacketed tank. 12/2/2015 4:11:38 PM
