ABC 2-10-2 #403 - Atlanta, Birmingham & Coast RR  Contributor's Pick!
Here is a rare, original photo of the AB&C #403. According to SteamLocomotive.com, "In 1917, the Atlanta, Birmingham & Coast Railroad took delivery of three "Santa Fe" type locomotives from the Baldwin Locomotive Works. These 2-10-2 locomotives had 58" diameter drivers, 27" x 30" cylinders, a 188.5 psi boiler pressure, they exerted 60,416 pounds of tractive effort and each 316,000 pounds. In 1946, the Atlantic Coast Line acquired the AB&C and the three "Santa Fe" locomotives were conveyed to the ACL and became ACL numbers 7401 through 7403. The ACL increased the diameter of the drivers to 63" which allowed gave them greater flexibility for their use. There are no surviving AB&C 2-10-2 "Santa Fe" type locomotives."

Marcus W General I don't think I've ever seen the headlight mounted in such a position before. Thanks for sharing! 1/16/2014 4:42:15 PM
Robert Beichler General The headlight on the pilotdeck does give it an odd look, but it just proves for every rule there is an exception. Very cool. 1/16/2014 6:11:36 PM
