CB&Q 4-6-0 Class K-2 646
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-6-0 Class K-2 646 at Clyde, Illinois on October 3, 1937, photograph by Mr. Griffin, print by C.T. Felstead, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 646 was built by the Rogers Locomotive And Machine Works in January 1893 as Burlington & Missouri River Railroad number 318, renumbered into the CB&Q system as 646 in 1904, classed as K-2, and sold for scrap in July 1952. The wide space between the domes and the forward position of the bell would suggest that this locomotive was once in commuter train service and equipped with a Curtis steam turbine generator to power the train lighting.
