PRR 5597, BS-7M, 1960
Good Day. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1960. Shown here are two Pennsylvania Railroad trains, both of which are moving West toward the Bedford Street Crossing. The train in the foreground has locomotives both front and rear, and is headed up the New Portage Branch line to Gallitzin and points West. The train in the background is headed (R to L) by PRR engines #5597 and #5595. Both are BS-7M's switchers built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in May of 1950 and rated at 750 horsepower each; they're pulling the daily "Cumberland Local" to Altoona. Visible in the distance are Hollidaysburg's historic "Chimney Rocks." This photo was taken at the Juniata River Railroad Bridge, near Bedford Street and the Passenger Station. #10 of 12.
