Peter Hultgren	General	I notice quite a difference in appearance between the two near tracks and the two far tracks. Is this due to locomotive sanding of the rails? The near track pair is normally running westbound, which is uphill; hence the need for sanding the rails.	7/9/2016 12:11:26 PM

PRR 8614, AS-24M, 1966
Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, during mid-May of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8614 and #8667. Both were built by the American Locomotive Company. #8614 is an AS-24M built in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. #8667 is an AS-18AM built in 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. They are returning to East Altoona for another run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. The lower or northern leg of the Curve is also visible to the left, across Burgoon Run.
