PRR 8616, AS-24M, 1966
Winter Day. Here is an original telephoto view that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during February of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8616 and #8614. Both are AS-24M's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. They are passing the Altoona Passenger Station on their way back to East Altoona after making a helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and back. Visible behind them is the PRR Test Plant building.
