Jordan Jenkins General The CSXT 6044 is now working in Kentucky? Thats an EMD GP40-2 derated to a GP38-2S and is the engine I used to run all the time when I was the RCO Foreman ( Remote Control Operator ) on the CSXT Y190 and Y290 remote control yard switchers at Hialeah Yard in Miami, Florida! This engine was the workhorse of Hialeah before the EMD GP40-3 CSXT 6552 came down and took over. In that box on the right side of the nose is the Cattron Locomotive Control Unit ( LCU ) computer that you link your Operator Control Unit ( OCU ) Remote Control Box to. The engine is first cranked up and idles until you build up air pressure, then you performe the brake tests, then you put the engines brakes in trailing mode as if you were hooking it to another engine, the you use the transfer valve thats in the engine near the second windshield from the right ( next to the control stand ) to tranfer the brakes from manual mode to computer mode, then you go outside and flip the black switch on the computer in that box 12/12/2017 1:11:44 AM
Jordan Jenkins General Lol the only problem with the old CSX 6044 is that the bell gets stuck sometimes and clicks instead of ringing and they have to spray grease into the little air powered piston to get it back working! That's why all new engines including the rebuilt EMD GP40-3s, GP39-3s, GP38-3s, and SD40-3s all have the new electronic bells ( E-bells ) on them so they don't have the same problems! Lol I like the E-bells and the old Mechanical metal bells too! Those E-bells are loud with all that pinging and when the windows are closed on the engine you can still hear it! ?? 12/12/2017 1:17:34 AM
Adam Comer General Jordan, thanks for your info and experience! I'm not sure if 6044 is still in KY, but it was an interesting catch! 3/31/2018 2:31:50 PM
