Byerly. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Ken L. Douglas that was taken at Sunnyside Yard in Long Island City, N.Y., in early 1968. Photo Caption: "Pennsylvania No. 4780, Class DD-1, Long Island City, N.Y., 1968." Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #4780 and #4781. Both are DD-1 (2-B+B-2) electrics built in Juniata during May of 1911, originally numbered "3936" and "3937" respectively, and rated at 4,000 horsepower total. This permanently-coupled pair was later renumbered "4780" and "4781" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger, and are presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Electric Railroading ~ Penn Central and Pennsylvania Lines" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (868-4). |
