Amtrak No. 1
In July 1973 Amtrak replaced the SUNSET LIMITED’s ex-Union Pacific E-units with former Southern Pacific F-units, and this was one of the first trains to once again run with a solid set of F’s waiting to leave New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. The 11-car train included AMTK FP7 113, SP FP7 6459, SP FP7 6461, and SP FP7 6448 with baggage car ATSF 3548, three sleepers SCL 6633 CLARENDON COUNTY, AMTK 2013 ORIOLE, AMTK 2213 INDIAN FLUTE, dormitory-lounge ATSF 1341, diner SP 10211, buffet-lounge UP 6201, four high-level coaches AMTK 9918, ATSF 704, AMTK 9956, and 9941. Back then, the track was ballasted with clam shells and weeds :)
