NS 1069 Virginian Tribute  Contributor's Pick!       
The Virginian Railway operated from 1907 to 1959 in (guess where) Virginia and West Virginia, receiving a lot of coal traffic. It merged with the Norfolk & Western in 1959. Part of the line was electrified, as the electric locomotives performed better on some of the steep hills than the steam locomotives.
