Here is page two of a five-page article by Eric A. Grubb entitled "A Ride In The Cab Of A GG-1." It was published originally in the October 1947 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 17. Partial Caption: "A GG-1 leaves Pennsylvania Staton, New York. Soon it will clatter into one of the tubes under the Hudson River and emerge on the New Jersey shore."

Tom Beckett General This was a great location to see the trains-you could look down from adjacent streets for this short daylight section just west of Penn Station, before the North River tunnels. Note the LIRR MP 54's at far left. They were built to run on overrunning third rail, which was standard on the Island, and predated the Pennsy electrification. 9/24/2019 3:37:59 AM
