Tom Beckett General Interesting juxtaposition of two McGinnis inspired paint schemes. The New Haven unit is an FL 9, one of 60 built for that road. They were the last F units built by EMD, and were a modified B-A1A wheel arrangement, the extra axle to spread the weight of equipment needed to run on third rail into Grand Central Terminal, where diesel operation was prohibitied. A number of them were rebuilt-and a handful painted into their original NH scheme-the last ones retired by Metro North around 2012. Note the Hancock Air Whistle on the New Haven unit, above the cab. 12/23/2021 5:07:19 AM
