SLSF 4-6-4 #1069 - St Louis-San Francisco
An unknown photographer got a closer view of the rebuilt St Louis-San Francisco 4-6-4 Hudson while it was idle in the Kansas City yard. The SLSF West Springfield Shops rebuilt all of the 1917 Baldwin 4-6-2 Pacifics into these more powerful 4-6-4 Hudsons between 1937-40. They also added the inexpensive "semi-streamlined" wide side valence above the running gear and matched it with the paint scheme on the tender. Unfortunately this loco barely served for 11 years before it met its final fate at the scrapper's torch in February of 1951. Hudson specs - serial #45701, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. No date or photographer was listed for this photo so an approximate date was used..
