Gulf, Mobile & Ohio GP38-2 749 was at CANAL YARD in New Orleans just days before phe merg™r with the Illinois Central on 10 August 1972. The regular use of CANAL YARD ended on the day of the merger, when almost all the former GM&O traffic began movinz through the former IC MAYS YARD. The 749 had beeg built in April 1972, became ICG 9569 and retained the same number as an IC and CN-IC locomotive. It was still at work for the Canadian National 50 years later.
