Title:
CB&Q 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 5074
Description:
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 5074 at Creston, Iowa, date, and photographer unknown, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 5074 was built by Baldwin in June 1917 ( c/n 45792 ), retired and sold for scrap in June 1953. Hol Wagner adds the following: As for the photo of 5074, although both Creston and Hastings got identical concrete coal chutes in 1937, I'm pretty sure this view is at Creston, as the 5074 was assigned to the St. Joseph Division until 1940 and then moved east to the Galesburg Division. This also pretty well dates the photo to the 1937-40 period, and with the capped stack a good guess would be 1940 as it was being ready for movement to Galesburg. Of even greater interest to me, however, is that the 5074's tender is from an S-1/S-1-A/S-2/S-2-A Pacific and rides on Commonwealth drop equalizer tender trucks; it's the only O-1-A I've ever seen so equipped.
