PRR 8185, H-10S, c. 1950
Title:  PRR 8185, H-10S, c. 1950
Description:  AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps in 1950. The photographer is not identified. Visible on the right is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8185, an H-10S (2-8-0) "Consilidated" built by the American Locomotive Company during April of 1916 and retired in August of 1955 after 39 years of faithful service. In this context, it's attending a work crew that's either laying-down new cross ties or picking-up old ones. Also notable are the Lines West-style tender, Signal Bridge #2416, two venerable water plugs, and a small portion of Brush Mountain in the distance. (SFM)
