Sometimes MEBU or BUME would go into East Binghamton. Such is the case today as the train has rolled onto track 5 and is headed for BD. In 15 minutes it will be across the river and in the yard. We also have an unusual unit today, ex BN 6592, an SDP 45. This one is ex GN, built in a late pre-Amtrak time when the railroads were planning to use these diesels for freight when finally relieved of running passenger trains. |

MEBU has cut off its train at Bevier St and will take the power to East Binghamton. The NYSW SD 45s were familiar sights in this era, the SDP 45s with actual steam generators(EL had 'em without the passenger equipment, they just wanted the longer frame for a bigger fuel tank), were unusual. The trailing unit is one of them, an ex GN unit now part of NRLs lease fleet. |
