Reminiscent Of Duluth
Title:  Reminiscent Of Duluth
Description:  Standing underneath 169, listening to the rumble of the CP duo's engines as I snapped this picture, I was reminded of hearing the rumble of locomotives and the sound of passing cars at Duluth Union Depot.

Covered Wagons!
Title:  Covered Wagons!
Description:  Walser may make the lady in the billboard smile, but these two FP9s were what made me smile this day. Too bad the Ryder Cup does not always come to the Twin Cities. I could get used to seeing these beauties on a regular basis.

Title:  The "Killarney"
Description:  Canadian Pacific private car "Killarney", the third car back from the engines on CP's Ryder Cup special, provides a sharp contrast to the electric billboard along U.S. 169 in the background.

The "Mount Royal"
Title:  The "Mount Royal"
Description:  The "Mount Royal" was the second car back from the engines on Canadian Pacific's Ryder Cup special. I wonder how the occupants of this car dealt with the noise of traffic on 169? (Maybe the sounds of the locomotives drowned it out.)

Wine Red Train
Title:  Wine Red Train
Description:  A look at the consist of Canadian Pacific's Ryder Cup special. Down on the former Minneapolis & St. Louis mainline, a grandfather taking his grandkid out for a ride in the stroller is admiring the wine red train. Just visible in the right background is a white square. This is part of a white banner emblazoned with red "CP" initials, denoting the parking and pick up/drop off place for shippers and guests who rode the rails to the Ryder Cup.

Reminiscent Of Dakota Rail's F Units
Title:  Reminiscent Of Dakota Rail's F Units
Description:  The Canadian Pacific f unit duo on the head end of CP's Ryder Cup train brought back boyhood memories of Dakota Rail's f units. (In fact, I had just come from photographing BNSF's Ryder Cup train, which was parked on the former DAKR interchange trackage.)

Switching Amidst Industry
Title:  Switching Amidst Industry
Description:  The PGR crew has pulled ahead on a switching move south of 86th Street. I do not know if they were switching an industry, or sorting out stored cars. The industry in the background provides a swell backdrop for the two locomotives whose paint schemes are virtually identical to that used by the Minneapolis, Northfield, and Southern, which once operated this line.

Title:  Brandon and Andy
Description:  Brandon (left) photographs while Andy (right) watches after taking some pics, as the CP Holiday Train rolls south from the CP/UP diamond on a snowy Saturday afternoon. Neither snow nor, well, anything else can deter some of us railfans. :-)

Title:  Southbound In The Snow
Description:  The first significant snowstorm of the year was already in full swing by the time the CP Holiday Train hove into view at the CP/UP diamond in Golden Valley. The snow, however, greatly added to the holiday spirit of the spectacle.

The Holiday Train At The Diamond
Title:  The Holiday Train At The Diamond
Description:  The Canadian Pacific Holiday train approaches the diamond on the MNS Spur with the Union Pacific's Golden Valley Industrial Lead on a snowy Saturday afternoon in early December. The train was running a bit late to its next engagement due to being thirty minutes late in New Hope, its first of three stops on the spur. Next stop: Golden Hills Drive in Golden Valley. Incidentally, the engineer was repeatedly blowing short blasts on the air horn to greet the small group gathered at the diamond to watch the train's passing.

On To The Next Show
Title:  On To The Next Show
Description:  The CP Holiday Train heads south on the MNS Spur bound for Golden Hills Drive and the next show. Two more shows, in St. Louis Park and, after a reverse move back to the old Soo Line main in New Hope, northeast Minneapolis, were to come after. Who would have thought we would see passengers riding the old MN&s/Dan Patch in 2016?

Here Comes The Varnish
Title:  Here Comes The Varnish
Description:  Four warm and toasty CP passenger cars loaded with riders lucky to get a seat on the CP Holiday Train begin to cross the CP/UP diamond as the train heads for showtime at Golden Hills Drive on a snowy Saturday afternoon. These folks were undoubtedly the first passengers to ride any portion of the old Minneapolis, Northfield, and Southern since a football special to and from Northfield plied the MN&S in October of 1978.

Big Lashup
Title:  Big Lashup
Description:  A westbound BNSF mixed merchandise freight heads up the east leg of the wye at Division Street with no less than five units on the head end. Perhaps at least two of these were simply hitching a ride and the engineer had three units for power? (Next time I will try sitting atop a picnic bench at the railfan park here to try to get above the fence for a zoom shot, by the way.)

New paint did not ensure the 1720 would roll for the BNSF, its third owner, forever. Thank heavens one of her brethren escaped to the Minnesota Transportation Museum. Former Would-Be Merger Partners
Title:  Former Would-Be Merger Partners
Description:  A CP and NS unit are the motive power on an eastbound freight whose crew had paused in the middle of sorting out their cars into Humboldt down at the yard's eastern end. This portrait also captures how CP and NS were would-be merger partners this time last year. Thank God that merger did not come to pass.

GEs And A Snowplow
Title:  GEs And A Snowplow
Description:  A string of GEs, which doubtless have seen much action this winter, and a snowplow, which doubtless saw less use than usual this winter, rest in Humboldt Yard on a gray Friday afternoon in March.

The MNS Spur Power?
Title:  The MNS Spur Power?
Description:  These two GPs might be the current motive power on the MNS Spur local at the moment. Either that or they are assigned other duties. Anyway, I found them at Humboldt this day.

Badly Tagged Caboose
Title:  Badly Tagged Caboose
Description:  I came upon this badly tagged Soo Line caboose at Humboldt Yard. Some punks just have no respect for private property.
