Title:  MGA 71 (2)
Description:  A vintage caboose of the Monongahela Railway. Built in June 1949, this was one of a batch of ten cabooses purchased from the International Car and Equipment Company in Chicago. The railroad was formed in 1901 as a joint venture of the Pennsylvania Railroad and Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad. The line was based out of Brownsville and had various branches and extensions serving all the coal and coke mines of the area. It was merged on May 1, 1993 into Conrail. Then in the late 90's Conrail was split into CSX and Norfolk Southern which both still serve the town. Found in the parking lot of Bowman-Nemacolin Castle. Donated by Conrail. Built in June 1949.

Former Monongahela Railway Freight Depot
Title:  Former Monongahela Railway Freight Depot
Description:  In Brownsville, Pa not far from the much larger Union (passenger) Station. The Monongahela Railway was a shortline jointly controlled by the PRR, B&O, and P&LE Railroads, as odd as that sounds. It ceased to exist when it was merged into Conrail in 1993. Now that Conrail no longer exists either, the railroad behind this building is the NS Loveridge Secondary.

I was on a quest to photograph this one ever since a year ago when it was in this yard but it was too far back for me to get a proper portrait of it. Photographed with permission. This has now been repainted to black, sadly.

Description:  A train of emtpy SCWX coal hoppers idles in the early morning sun while waiting for a new crew and permission to go up to Brownsville Junction and get onto Norfolk Southern trackage. This is near the Assad Metals junkyard. Despite the warm-looking sun, it was a bone-chilling 15 degree morning. The GE AC44CW is commonly used on most CSX coal trains in the area.

Last year I photographed this engine in almost the same location except it was still in Conrail blue. Sure it looks great in black but Im still sad to see that. It was former Conrail/Penn Central 8156 built in October 1973.
