CMRR 401
The Catskill Mountain Railroad's well known Alco RS-1 provided the power on the west end of the train this day. Built in Schenectady in 1950, about 70 miles from this location, for the Illinois Terminal Railroad. The locomotive later migrated to the Green Mountain Railroad of Bellows Falls, VT, joining two other units of its type for a few years before coming to the Catskills region. Now one of two RS-1 units on the property, and the only one that runs, the locomotive was constructed in the same city as the GE switcher on the other end of the train about eight years later.
