Title:  CEI 2-10-2 #2006 - Chicago & Eastern Illinois
Description:  Like the other 5 in this C&EI class O-1, this locomotive was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1918. It had 63" diameter drivers, 30" x 32" cylinders, a 200 psi boiler pressure, exerted 77,714 pounds of tractive effort and each weighed 377,300 pounds. Eventually due to startup slippage and low speeds, the loco was sold to sold to Central of Georgia in 1945 and renumbered 712. Eventually it was scrapped in 1950. Unknown photographer

ACL 2-10-2 #2006 - Atlantic Coast
Title:  ACL 2-10-2 #2006 - Atlantic Coast
Description:  This Atlantic Coast Line 2-10-2 locomotive #2006 is an excellent example of a Baldwin built USRA "Santa Fe-Heavy" locomotive. It was built in October of 1025 and served successively as a heavy hauler for the ACL. Unfortunately as diesels entered the roster, this loco and the entire Q-1 class disappeared. #2006 met the scrapper's torch in December of 1952 at the Waycross Georgia Yard. Specs - serial #58731, Q-1 class, 63" drivers, 210 psi boiler pressure, 30x32" cylinders, engine wt of 391,980 lb impressive tractive effort of 81,600 lb. GN 2-10-2 #2100 - Great Northern
Title:  GN 2-10-2 #2100 - Great Northern
Description:  Beautiful 1923 Baldwin builder's photo of the first of 45 2-10-2 Santa Fe type locomotives that were on the Great Northern roster. Specifics - Q-1, 63" drivers, 210 psi boiler pressure, 31x32" cylinders, engine weight of 428,340 lb, impressive tractive effort of 87,131 lb. According to Steamlocomotive.com " Big engines in every respect, these Santa Fes had the Belpaire firebox beloved by the Great Northern, 15" (381 mm) piston valves, and lots of weight on the drivers. Their tube & flues had large diameters and the 60 superheater flues were among the most in any boiler. A smallish grate area meant much less to an oil-fired class and they had few rivals in the adhesion weight they could throw into hauling a train. They were rated at 3,000 tons of trailing load (75 cars) over the mountainous Montana profile between Whitefish and Cutbank. Most were oil burners as shown in the specs. Delivered with 370 sq ft of heating surface and 5,499 sq ft total, the class later added 39 sq ft of arch tubes and a trailing-truck booster developing 12,200 lb." After 27 years of hard service, this locomotive was scrapped in 1950.

SP 2-10-2 #3724 - Southern Pacific
Title:  SP 2-10-2 #3724 - Southern Pacific
Description:  Long and sleek are appropriate descriptive words for this Baldwin Santa Fe type locomotive #3742 built in October of 1923 and matching its tender. The loco was a hard worker generating 75,150 lb of tractive force. When its days started waning on the SP, it was leased to Texas & New Orleans as their #901starting in 1950. The loco was "vacated" in January of 1953 and by March it was scrapped at the Houston yard. Specifics - F-5 class, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 29.5x32" cylinders, engine weight of 397,900 lb, tractive effort of 75,145 lb. Most of the F-5s went to the Texas & New Orleans lines, where they worked until retirement in 1949-1956. No location, date or photographer was listed for this photo.

SP 2-10-2 #3767 - Southern Pacific
Title:  SP 2-10-2 #3767 - Southern Pacific
Description:  Nice looking example of a Baldwin Santa Fe type locomotive, SP #3767, built by Baldwin in March of 1924 just sitting quietly n the West Oakland yard. In most respects, this class' design repeated the F-5s, but their fireboxes had 110 sq ft (10.2 sq m) more heating surface area thanks to the inclusion of 116 sq ft in three Nicholson thermic syphons. Their addition increased adhesion weight by less than 1,000 lb. Most of the F-5s were leased to the Texas & New Orleans lines, where they worked until retirement in 1949-1956. This loco was "vacated" in January of 1953 and scrapped later in March of 1953. Specifics - F-5 class thermic syphon, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 29.5x32" cylinders, engine weight of 409,900 lb, tractive effort of 75,145 lb. No photographer listed.

LV 2-10-2 #4036 - Lehigh Valley
Title:  LV 2-10-2 #4036 - Lehigh Valley
Description:  Another 2-10-2 Santa Fe type steam locomotive in helper service was captured by an unidenitified photographer as it worked at the West Portal of the Pattenburg Tunnel. The original photo was badly degraded but the image of the loco can be seen fairly well. No date was given but based on other photos that were with this one, it would be circa 1932.

LV 2-10-2 #4045 - Lehigh Valley
Title:  LV 2-10-2 #4045 - Lehigh Valley
Description:  According to SteamLocomotives/com, this Santa Fe-type 2-10-2 was built by Baldwin in 1919 as a class R-1 unit but was rebuilt and renumbered in 1928-29 as a 2-8-2 #280. However, the highly detailed notes left by the unknown photographer on the protective paper sleeve states this photo was taken in November of 1950 (by a Ciroflex "B" camera set at an 7 Fstop for 1/25th sec on E-XX film and developed using DK-60a solution with an exposure of 8 sec on photopaper #3). The photographer's date and the rebuilt date do not match. Can anyone help?
