Description:  This Baldwin Locomotive Works 2-10-2 "Santa Fe" type locomotive was built between 1903-04 as an ATSF class 900. Used primarily as a helper for the mountain lines, this pusher had 57" drivers, developed a strong 225 psi, and delivered a substantial tractive effort of 57,314 lb. It was originally built as a tandem-compound design with 19&32X32 cylinders but was simplified in 1920 at San Bernardino with 28X32 cylinders, retaining the 57" drivers. Unknown photographer

Description:  Southern Pacific (Texas & New Orleans) F-1 class 2-10-2 985 was on the first section of Shreveport-Houston train No. 143 at Keithville, Louisiana. The 985 had been built by Baldwin (51835) in May 1919 as Southern Pacific 3628 and was acquired by the T&NO in November 1922. It was sold for scrap to Commercial Metals in Houston in June 1954.

Description:  The highest-numbered locomotive on the Southern Pacific’s Texas & New Orleans subsidiary was F-1 class 2-10-2 999, shown here at AVONDALE YARD just west of New Orleans. The locomotive had been built by Baldwin in June 1919 as SP 3640 and was “sold” to the T&NO in December 1927, shortly after the SP received its SP-3 class 4-10-2’s. Description:  Nice photo by Max Miller of the Pere Marquette 2-10-2 Santa Fe type locomtoive originally built by Baldwin in December 1919 for Lehigh Valley as class R-1 #4073 (c/n 52675), sold to Hocking Valley as their class F-1 #143 in May 1922. Pere Marquette leased #143 in 1929, then purchased it along with sister HV #141 (ex-LV #4071) in July 1930. They were renumbered 1198 (ex-LV #4071) & 1199 (ex-LV #4073) and served PM until being absorbed by the C&O, assigned #2961 but never applied. Final days were in July 1949 when it was scrapped.

Description:  Baldwin built ATSF #1623 as a compound 2-10-2 arrangement in September of 1905 but the loco was simplified in May of 1922 at the San Bernardina Shops. After a total of nearly 48 years of service, the loco was sold for scrap to M. S. Kaplan Company on August 7, 1953. Description:  Brutish looking Baldwin 2-10-2 "Santa Fe type" configuration built for the Santa Fe between 1905-07, class 1600, Originally built as a 4-cyl tandem compound, it was simpled sometime between 1917-24. Some in the class were rebuilt to 2-10-10-2's at a later date. All were gone by 1956. No date, location or photographer listed so approximates were used in listing it.

Description:  According to SteamLocomotives.com, "the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad bought seven "Santa Fe" type locomotives from the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1918. These 2-10-2s were designated as Class O-1 and were given road numbers 2000 through 2006. They had 63" diameter drivers, 30" x 32" cylinders, a 200 psi boiler pressure, exerted 77,714 pounds of tractive effort and each weighed 377,300 pounds. The combined heating surface was 6,616 square feet and the piston valves were 15" in diameter." After dealing with slippage and slow speeds, C&EI sold this unit to the C&O in 1945.It was eventually scrapped in 1951. No photographer listed for this photo.

Description:  This massive and powerful 2-10-2 Santa Fe type steam locomotive was built by Baldwin in September of 1925 for the Atlantic Coast line. This was a heavy hauler of freight for the ACL and served for 27 years before being scrapped at Waycross, GA, in December of 1952 when diesels took over. Specs - serial #58649, Q-1 class, 63" drivers, 210 psi boiler pressure, 30x32" cylinders, engine wt of 391,980 lb impressive tractive effort of 81,600 lb. It had 63" diameter drivers, 30" x 32" cylinders, a 200 psi boiler pressure, exerted 77,714 pounds of tractive effort and weighed 377,300 pounds. After dealing with some startup slippage and low speeds, C&EI sold this unti to sold to C&O in 1945 and eventually it was scrapped in 1951. This photo was taken near Midway Airpot and is marked from the Harold K. Vollrath collection.
